There are three types of translation. Standard translation, Certified translation and Notarized translation.
The CERTIFIED TRANSLATION and the NOTARIZED TRANSLATION are similar with one exception: Both come with a Certificate of Accuracy or an Affidavit of Accuracy. The Certified Translation comes with a certification about the accuracy of the translation which is signed and stamped. The Notarized Translation - as the name implies: Is a translation that comes certified and signed by a notary.
Not every entity requires this notarization (for example there is no need for a notary signature on the certification for the USCIS), but the concept is simple. Many people ask whether they need or not a notary signature on the certification. Our response is very simple: If you don't get a notary signature and you need it on the translation, this can cause a problem, but if your translation has a notary signature on the affidavit and you don't need it - nothing happens. The notary signature is a higher level of certification.
Common needs for a notary signature on the certification are for legal documents submitted to the court, some bank procedures (such as presenting a will), when an apostille is required, etc.
